چکیده

Background Viability testing prior to revascularization in ischaemic cardiomyopathy has courted controversy in the literature over recent years. Viability assessment prior to revascularization at our institution is largely requested for patients with severely impaired left ventricles (LV). This study however aims to review the outcomes of the patients with preserved or mildly impaired LV function who underwent cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) for viability assessment during consideration for revascularization and to evaluate its use in this group.

Relation of regional function, perfusion, and metabolism in patients with advanced coronary artery disease undergoing surgical revascularization.

BACKGROUND Imaging of myocardial glucose metabolism using [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) with positron emission tomography (PET) has been proposed for identification of tissue viability in patients with advanced coronary artery disease. This study was designed to evaluate the predictive value of flow and metabolic imaging for functional recovery after revascularization in myocardial segments of ...

Current diagnostic techniques of assessing myocardial viability in patients with hibernating and stunned myocardium.

T he differentiation of viable from nonviable myocardium in patients with coronary artery disease and left ventricular dysfunction is an issue of increasing clinical relevance in the current era of myocardial revascularization. It is now well established that impaired left ventricular function does not always represent an irreversible process. However, until recently, determining whether impair...

A Comparison of Thallium-201 Spect and F-18 Deoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography in Assessing Myocardial Viability

Assessment of myocardial viability 1>rior to revascularization procedures is an important clinical consideration for improved functional recovery of regional left ventricular dysfunction. In chronic coronary artery disease, impaired left ventricular function , at least in part, is due to ischemic or hibernating myocardium rather than just myocardial fibrosis. Functional recovery of the left ven...

Left Ventricular Function

Background. Although many patients with multivessel coronary artery disease (CAD) and severely depressed left ventricular (LV) function will benefit from coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG), surgeons may be reluctant to perform CABG on these patients without evidence of myocardial viability in regions of severe asynergy. We hypothesized that quantitative planar rest-redistribution 2`Tl ...

Myocardial viability and prognosis in patients with ischemic left ventricular dysfunction.

Left ventricular (LV) function is among the most important determinants of prognosis in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). It is well established that patients with impaired LV systolic function represent a high risk group with significantly greater annual mortality than those with preserved LV function, and that survival rates decline in proportion to the severity of LV dysfunction (...
